‘Worst No. 2’ Wiseman notified of release by last-place team

Will Wiseman be able to continue his NBA career?

The Detroit Pistons have not made a qualifying offer to James Wiseman, according to Hoops Hype, a local U.S. media outlet. This means that they have waived their rights to Wiseman. Wiseman is an unrestricted free agent and is free to sign elsewhere.

Wiseman was drafted by the Golden State Warriors with the second overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. At the time, the Warriors were excited to add a superstar rookie to their roster, as they still had Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green. Wiseman was seen as the future of the 파워볼사이트 Golden State dynasty.

But the results were disastrous. Wiseman enrolled at the University of Memphis, but after playing just three games in the NCAA, he was lost for the season due to injury, meaning NBA teams were unable to evaluate his skills and potential.

Wiseman was known as a highly touted prospect in high school for his athleticism and flashes of brilliance. Golden State needed a center, and they took a gamble on Wiseman’s potential.

The problem with Wiseman was that while he had great size, he had a long way to go in terms of skill. Wiseman could shoot and dribble, but not at a level that could be used in a real game. His fundamentals were such that he had to learn basketball from scratch. Even screens, which are fundamental for a big man, were clumsy, but he did have some scoring instincts. Of course, even that wasn’t up to par at the NBA level.

Naturally, Golden State couldn’t give Wiseman any playing time. The vicious cycle continued. Wiseman didn’t have a chance to develop without playing time, and Golden State, in win-now mode, was frustrated with Wiseman’s performance.

Eventually, the Warriors traded Wiseman away. The destination was last-place Detroit. Detroit was rebuilding and wanted to test prospects like Wiseman. Wiseman showed signs of rebounding in Detroit, averaging 12.7 points and 8.1 rebounds in 25.2 minutes per game.

But in the 2023-2024 season, new Detroit head coach Monty Williams had no intention of utilizing Wiseman. Wiseman’s minutes dropped again and he lost his place on the court.

That’s when Wiseman became a free agent. To be fair, it’s doubtful that any team would want Wiseman. He was released by Detroit, a rebuilding team. It won”t be easy for him to return to the NBA.
