South Korea’s women’s soccer team, which played in an away warm-up match in Europe, won a pleasant victory over the Czech Republic.
South Korea, led by Colin Bell (England), defeated the Czech Republic 2-1 in a warm-up match at Football City Stadium in Lisbon, Portugal, on the 25th (Korea time). South Korea is ranked 20th in the FIFA rankings, while the Czech Republic is ranked 28th.
Ji So-yeon (Seattle Lane) scored her 70th goal of the A match, while Casey Fair Eugene (Angel City), born in 2007, considered the future of women’s soccer, also scored the winning goal to collaborate for a more meaningful victory.
The victorious Korean team will move to Estoril on Friday for its second warm-up match against Portugal, the home team. Portugal is ranked 21st in the women’s FIFA rankings, one level lower than Korea.
Women’s soccer has no major competition to participate this year, and instead, it is playing warm-up matches in preparation for the 2026 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women’s Asian Cup and 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
In Korea, Pair and Choi Yu-ri (Birmingham City) played as two-top players, while Ji So-yeon, Cho So-hyun (Birmingham City), and Jang Seul-ki (Gyeongju KHNP) were in the midfield.
Choo Hyo-joo (Incheon Hyundai Steel) and Lee Eun-young (Hwacheon KSPO) served as wingbacks on both sides, while Shim Seo-yeon (Suwon FC Women), Lee Young-joo (Madrid CFF) and Kim Hye-ri (Hyundai Steel) stood at the defensive line. The goalkeeper is the eldest sister Jungmi Kim (Hyundai Steel).
Korea broke the balance in the 16th minute of the first half. The main character was ace Ji So-yeon. Ji So-yeon shook the net with a free kick that Kim Hye-ri got near the penalty arc that went over the defensive wall. The shot was hit by the crossbar and sucked into the goal.
Then, Korea scored an additional goal in the first minute of the second half. Pair penetrated the left side and beat the opponent team’s defense before hitting the right footed shot at the goal. Pair was born to a Korean mother and an American father, and this was his fourth A-match score.
The Korean team allowed a comeback goal in the eighth minute of the second half, but kept its concentration and took the lead afterward. The match ended with Korea’s 2-1 victory. Victory was also engraved in the history of the first showdown in women’s soccer history between Korea and the Czech Republic.
