What about Ryu Hyun-jin? MLB Toronto loses its starting third baseman and shortstop to injuries.
The “Korean Monster,” Ryu Hyun-jin (36, Toronto Blue Jays), has a new setback in his quest for a four-game winning streak.
Starting third baseman Matt Chapman (30) and starting shortstop Bo Bissett (25) have been placed on the disabled list (IL).
The Toronto Blue Jays of Major League Baseball (MLB) announced on Tuesday that they have placed Bissett on the 10-day DL with a right quadriceps (thigh muscle) strain.
The team recalled infielder Mason McCoy from Triple-A to replace Bissett.
Chapman and Bissett were injured back-to-back on April 28 against the Cleveland Indians.
Bissett left the game in the bottom of the fifth inning with a thigh strain while running the bases, and Chapman was removed from the game in the bottom of the sixth inning after experiencing pain in his right middle finger.
Chapman was diagnosed with a sprained middle finger ligament and placed on the 29-day DL, with Bissett following the next day.
Both injuries will hurt Toronto’s chances in the wild-card race.
It’s also bad news for Ryu Hyun-jin. Ryu, who walks more batters than he strikes out, will need help from his defensive infielders.
Chapman is a three-time Gold Glove winner and one of the best defenders in MLB.
While he had a shaky outing in Ryu’s last start, making a series of fielding errors, there’s no doubting his defensive prowess.
Bissett is also a solid defender. Bissett has also helped pitchers with his bat, hitting .314 with 18 home runs and 62 RBIs this season.
Without Chapman and Bissett, Ryu will have a lot of pressure on him.
The Jays will have to rely on non-roster players to fill the void until the two return.
The Jays used backup infielder Santiago Espinal at third base and minor leaguer Ernie Clement at shortstop against the Washington Nationals on Tuesday.
The backups will likely play shortstop and third base in Ryu’s start as well.
After calculating the starting rotation, Ryu is expected to start against the visiting Colorado Rockies at 9:40 a.m. on March 2 at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado, USA.
Coors Field sits at an elevation of 6,000 feet (1,600 meters) above sea level, and its low air resistance favors hitters with long balls.
Ryu has been battling a number of adverse conditions.
After undergoing left elbow ligament reconstruction surgery in June of last year and spending more than a year rehabbing, 카지노사이트킴 Ryu has gone 3-1 with a 2.25 ERA in five starts since returning to the big leagues on Feb. 2.
