Doosan snapped a five-game losing streak by beating Hanwha.
Doosan won its 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League game against Hanwha 8-3 at Hanwha Life Eagles Park in Daejeon on Monday.
Starting pitcher Kwak Bin earned his ninth win of the season with seven innings of two-hit ball, one walk, 10 strikeouts and one run. It was his most wins in a single season, surpassing last year’s eight. He used all four of his pitches well, with a fastball that topped out at 154 mph and averaged 150 mph, along with a curveball, slider, and changeup.
At the plate, Yang Seok-hwan led the offense with a game-tying two-run shot in the second inning and Yang Ji Hyun with a wedge two-run shot in the seventh. A big six-run eighth inning, including Kim Jae-ho’s sweeping three-run double.
Third-place Doosan, which snapped a five-game losing streak after an 11-game winning streak, remained in third place with 45 wins, 41 losses and one tie.
After the game, Doosan manager Lee Seung-yeop said, “The players must have been under a lot of pressure due to the long losing streak, but Yang Suk-hwan and Yang Ji hit home runs like veterans and lifted the team’s mood. Captain Heo Kyung-min’s diving catch of a straight hit by Lee Do-yoon in the fifth inning also gave us a boost.” “On the mound, starter Kwak Bin was outstanding. After giving up a run in the first inning, he pitched a perfect sixth inning to lead the team to victory.”
