The 2014 anti-corruption crackdown by the Chinese government was relentless and is believed to be directly related to significant losses in Macau casinos.

Total losses in 2014 are estimated to exceed $100 billion, with Macau casinos continuing to lose as of 2015.

A recent report comparing Macau’s gross gaming revenue (GGR) in February 2015 to February 2014 showed a staggering 48.6% decline. The Chinese New Year takes place in February and is a period when casinos tend to make huge profits. Anti-corruption crackdowns, along with political tensions and violence in neighboring Hong Kong, have driven gamblers from Macau to neighboring countries with far fewer gambling restrictions, such as Vietnam, the Philippines and Cambodia.

The report was published by the Gaming Inspection Coordination Bureau, and analysts were not surprised by the significant decline given the current situation in Macau. Industry analysts believe the industry will continue to decline as long as the Chinese government continues its anti-corruption crackdown, as long as a high rollercoaster prevents it from going to Mecca.

Macau Casino brought in about $2.4 billion in February 2015, with a combined GGR of just over $5 billion in January and February sales. February 2015 was also the first time that monthly gaming sales in Macau fell below $2.4 billion.프라그마틱 슬롯 사이트

Felicity Chiang and Grant Goversen, analysts at Union Gaming Research Macau Ltd., said in a note, “Today’s results will not provide much answer for what happened in February. But in the coming weeks and in March, there will be more insight into the composition of February’s GGR (volume versus VIP) and whether the February results indicate a new baseline.”

February’s report showed Macau game sales fell month-on-month for the ninth consecutive month compared to the same period last year.
