The Korea Football Coaches Association issued a statement on Wednesday calling for the resignation of Chung Mong-kyu, the president of the Korea Football Association, saying the process of selecting Hong Myung-bo as the national team’s head coach was arbitrary without meeting procedural legitimacy.
The Football Leaders Association pointed out that the KFA’s National Power Enhancement Committee, which was in charge of selecting the head coach, forced the selection of a new coach when only five members remained due to the resignation of a member.
“It is common sense to reappoint the chairman and add more members and let the committee tie up the loose ends,” the organization said, adding that “if they wanted to move it to the technical committee, they should have gone through the board of directors with the consent of the remaining members.”
The group also pointed out that the KFA’s technical director Lee Im-sang, who had finalized the appointment of the head coach, called Hong late at night to ask him to accept the position, saying that he had not followed procedures such as interviews.
“Why should the interview criteria, which should be fair to all, suddenly turn into a subjective and arbitrary interpretation only in front of certain candidates?” the group said, adding, “For our leaders, the procedural legitimacy of the association’s administration is the only ladder of hope to reach their dreams.”
“(Procedures and systems) become more solid through the process of trial and error, and the results are given legitimacy and ultimately win public support,” he said, adding, “President Chung has forgotten this common sense.”
The Football Coaches Association has been calling for Chung’s resignation since it was founded on March 24. 안전놀이터
