Detrick Enns is looking to follow in Kelly’s footsteps

The LG Twins’ Detrick Enns, who pitched a dominant game for the dramatic survival of the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO), is looking to follow in Kelly’s footsteps, even as he misses him.

On March 23, Enns took the mound against the Lotte Giants at Sajik Stadium in Busan, South Korea, and came off the mound with a perfect game, throwing six innings, 92 pitches, four hits, one walk, one hit batsman, and seven strikeouts. Although the team allowed the tying run to score in the eighth inning, Kim Hyun-soo’s game-winning hit in the ninth gave the team a 2-1 victory and extended their winning streak to six games. Enns’ strong pitching performance helped LG extend its winning streak.

Enns has been quite strong against Lotte this season. In three appearances, he earned the win, had a 2.45 ERA (5 earned runs in 18 1/3 innings), and his status was secure.

LG had been struggling since midseason to find a replacement for the foreign player. They decided that they needed a foreign player who could dominate for the second consecutive year. Enns, who had been recruited as the first choice, was unstable, and Casey Kelly, a “six-year foreigner,” was once again at a crossroads. Eventually, Kelly was dropped and Enns survived. Enns was stabilizing, and he had the advantage of being a left-hander with good stuff.

This would be Enns’ first start since being claimed off waivers.

In the fifth, he allowed a leadoff single to Na Seung-yup, but got Ko Seung-min to fly out to right field and Son Sung-bin to ground out to the pitcher to end the threat. In the top of the sixth, Yoon gave up a double to left-center to Dong-hee Yoon and a walk to Junwoo Jeon. The bases were loaded with one out. Having barely survived, Enns now has a clear role to play as the No. 1 starter. “She’s been a great teammate and a role model for me,” he said. So I’m going to miss her a lot. “I’m going to be very sad,” he said, ”but I’m just going to have to keep throwing well like I did today and take it in stride. I think that’s what I’m going to do for her and that’s what I’m going to do for myself.”

On the 20th,

Kelly’s farewell game against Jamsil Doosan was declared a rainout. In the end, the game was not completed and Kelly’s farewell ceremony was held, and the players who had been with him shed tears. The presence of Kelly on the team was unique.

Enns hopes to follow in her footsteps. “He left a big mark in Korea and was a champion who led the team to victory,” he says. She set a lot of records. He was synonymous with consistency. “Kelly is a legend and will be remembered for a long time. I think I can be motivated by that, and I think I can follow in his footsteps by doing my best one day at a time, rather than setting big goals for the future,” he concluded.
