November 19 (local time), the day Brazilian ‘soccer emperor’ Pele scored his 1,000th career goal, was officially designated as ‘Pele Day,’ Associated Press and other news agencies reported on the 2nd.

The Brazilian government announced in a press release that day that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva had passed a bill designating November 19th of each year as a national holiday, “King Pele Day.”

November 19th is the day Pele scored his 1,000th career goal.

Pele, playing for Santos FC, scored a penalty kick to secure a 2-1 victory over Vasco da Gama at the Macaranao Stadium on 19 November 1969. The Brazilian government says this goal is Pele’s 1,000th career goal.

At the time, when Pele scored his 1,000th goal, excited fans rushed onto the pitch and the game was briefly halted.

However, some soccer historians question whether this goal was actually the 1,000th goal, AP reported.

Pele is the greatest soccer player of all time, having won the FIFA World Cup three times (1958, 1962, and 1970) during his lifetime. 슬롯사이트

According to FIFA statistics, he appeared in 1,366 matches and scored 1,281 goals, earning him the nickname ‘Emperor of Football’.

He also scored 77 goals in 92 A matches (matches between national teams) for the Brazilian national soccer team.

He held the top spot in scoring in A matches among Brazilian male players until he was surpassed by Brazil’s current ace Neymar (Al Hilal, 79 goals).

Pele died in December 2022 at the age of 82 after a battle with cancer.

Pele’s mother, Celeste Arantes, also passed away on the 21st of last month at the age of 101.

Arantes was known to have been reluctant to send his son into football despite knowing that he had natural talent, out of concern for his son’s future. 파친코사이트
