The Hard Rock saw better days before closing. After opening for two years, Virgin is making changes to attract more customers.
One of the distractions for potential guests is the separation from the brand of hotels and casinos. The hotel uses the name “Vergine Hotel Las Vegas, part of Hilton’s Curio Collection.”
Meanwhile, another company, Mohegan Gaming, runs a casino. The Sports Book of the interior is run by Betfred.
Beyond the possibility of name confusion, marketing among companies is limited to date. Mixing other hotels, casinos and sportsbook brands is nothing special for Virgin. But the brand is unique.
The change in Virgin will start at the top and flow down to a new experience at the casino resort located just off of Vegas Strip and Paradise Road on Harman Avenue.
Virgin expects to see many changes with new president Cliff Atkinson
Earlier this year, the CEO of JC Hospitality resigned. According to a post by HospitalityNet, the announcement of the new president of Cliff Atkinson Properties highlights the brand name that confuses customers:
“The Virgin Hotel Las Vegas, part of Hilton’s Curio collection, is pleased to announce that Cliff Atkinson has been appointed president of the resort casino as of July 31.”
Atkinson offers Virgin 30 years of hospitality experience. He previously worked at Luxo Hotels & Casinos, Mandarin Oriental Hotels Group and Gramercy Park Hotel. He also worked with MGM Resort, which leads the best hospitality center.
The company is looking forward to many changes now that Atkinson has become president. One of the changes may be to bring back one of the best features of the original Hard Rock casino layer.
What are the changes coming to Virgin Hotels Las Vegas?
When JC Hospitality purchased the hard rock, the exterior remained the same, but the interior showed some changes, and one of the biggest changes in the building was the removal of the center bar, which was renovated by the previous operator.
The “center bar” concept, found in casinos across Las Vegas, was popular on the original hard rock. The bar has since helped Hard Rock become an off-stripe destination to mingle with a handful of people.
Visitors to Virgin can see the ceiling above the main casino and see where the center bar used to be. Just looking at it can bring back amazing memories of the Hard Rock era.
“We want to bring (the center bar) back,” Virginson told Las Vegas Review-Journal when discussing the possibility of a change in Virgin. Although he says there is no limit to the change being considered for the property, the change has not been confirmed.
Virgin is sponsoring the Las Vegas Grand Prix and expects business disruptions in the F1 race in November. Atkinson said he hopes to meet Virgin Group founder Sir Richard Branson in Las Vegas for a race.
He said the property was considering a 24 Oxford production show. Atkinson said he plans to showcase Las Vegas celebrities at the venue.
The Magic Mike Live Theater has been closed since it closed with hard rock. Atkinson says they plan to reopen the space. They are currently coming up with various ideas.
Overall, Atkinson thinks the entertainment space will increase the activity of the property in the future.
Changes to Las Vegas casinos are yet to be planned

Neither company announced changes to the casino floor while Atkinson explored future plans for the property. This could change as Mohigan Gaming’s third-quarter 2023 earnings show a 22.7% drop from the same period last year.
Perhaps hotel and casino operators will work more closely together as Virgin continues to evolve in Las Vegas.
