Match of the Round – Season 2023 Playoffs Recreation, Gyeongnam vs Gimpo
In Round 13, Gyeongnam and Gimpo will face off. The two teams previously met in the K League 2 Playoffs in the 2023 season, and this is their first meeting of the season, a repeat of last season’s playoffs.
The home team, Gyeongnam, lost 0-1 away to Anyang in the 12th round. Gyeongnam won 3-1 at Jeonnam in Round 10 thanks to a hat-trick from Arabuli, but lost 2-1 at Seongnam in Round 11 and 1-0 at Anyang in Round 12. Gyeongnam, who finished fourth in the final standings last season and made it to the playoffs, has struggled this season, finishing 11th in K League 2 with 12 points. Gyeongnam will need Park Min-seo’s scoring touch to rebound. Park joined Gyeongnam in the summer of last season and performed reasonably well, scoring two goals and providing one assist in 18 appearances. With his quickness and ability to get into the opposition’s flanks and create chances, Park has two assists this season and leads the team with 18 shots on target in the supplementary data. With his quick bursts and good link-up play, Park Min-seo will be able to find the back of the net in the near future if he can improve his finishing.
The visitors won 2-1 against Chungnam Asan in the previous round. Despite conceding a goal to Chungnam Asan just before the end of the day, Jeong Jeong-chul’s opener and Plana’s consolation goal secured the three points for Gimpo. Gimpo has been performing well with four wins, three draws, and four losses through 12 rounds, but they are only 11th in the top scoring rankings (10 goals) and need to bolster their offense. The only solution is Luis. After joining Gimpo last season, Lewis scored 17 goals in his first season in the K-League to become the top scorer in the K-League 2. This season, however, Luis has only scored three goals so far. He is second on the team in shots (20) behind Plana (22), and with a little more precision, he could be Gimpo’s go-to guy, as he was last season when he led them to the promotion playoffs.
Meanwhile, the head-to-head record between the two teams last season was narrowly in favor of Gyeongnam with one win and two draws, but Gimpo did defeat Gyeongnam 2-1 in the K League 2 playoffs. Gimpo, who handed Gyeongnam the embarrassment of missing out on the promotion playoffs for the 2023 season, will travel to Changwon Football Center on Sunday, July 19 at 7 p.m.
Team of the Round – High-Scoring Soccer ‘Seoul E-Land’
Seoul E-Land has been in great form since the start of the season with five wins, three draws, and three losses. The team is currently in third place in K-League 2 (18 points), a far cry from last season, when they struggled and never climbed above seventh place.
Seoul E-Land’s data shows that their offensive metrics have improved dramatically from last season. Last season, the team ranked 12th out of 13 teams in average goals per game (1) and 12th in assists (19). This season, however, they have returned as 먹튀검증 a different team. Seoul E-Land has scored 23 goals in 11 games so far, averaging 2.09 goals per game, more than double their average from last year. The team is also tied with Anyang and Chungbuk Cheongju for the fewest goals conceded (10), demonstrating their excellent record on both offense and defense.
High-scoring games have been a hallmark of the Seoul E-Land this season. Only four of their 11 matches so far have produced more than 15 goals, and all of them have been by more than three goals. No player has scored a hat trick for Seoul Eiland so far this season, which is a positive sign as it means that the scoring sources are spread out and not centered on a single player.
Seoul Eland’s offense is led by the foreign duo of Bruno Silva and Ikova. The two players are the top scorers in K League 2 (Bruno Silva, 9 goals) and fifth (Ikova, 5 goals), respectively, and their goals alone are more than the total goals of all the teams in the lower half of the K League 2. In the previous match against Ansan in the 12th round, both players scored three goals to lead the team to a 3-0 victory.
Meanwhile, Seoul E-Land’s opponent in the 13th round is Jeonnam. The two teams were evenly matched last season with one win, one draw, and one loss, but given Seoul E-Land’s performance this season, Jeonnam shouldn’t underestimate them. The match between the two teams will take place at Mokdong Sports Complex on Saturday, November 18 at 7pm.
□ Player of the Round – Suwon’s Fixer ‘Kim Hyun’
Suwon (2nd, 19 points), who are new to the K League 2 this season, looked good at one point, going on a four-game winning streak to take the top spot, but a recent losing streak has dampened their spirits. Suwon is now five points behind first-place Anyang and will need to rebound quickly.
For Suwon to end their losing streak, they’ll need to rely on the play of their fixer, Kim Hyun. Kim has scored four goals and provided four assists in 10 games since joining Suwon this season. In particular, Kim has been on an offensive tear lately, scoring his first goal of the season against Chungbuk Cheongju in Round 5 and then racking up offensive points in six consecutive games until the match against Seongnam in Round 10. Although Kim was silent in the last match against Cheonan, he needs to get back into the team’s groove and reactivate his scoring touch.
Kim has started five of the 10 games she’s played this season and come off the bench in five of them, and she’s always been able to contribute regardless of her playing time. In particular, Kim has used her 6-foot-4 frame to lead the team in aerial balls won (82), and has also been a standout in other key offensive metrics, including second on the team in shots (23) and second in key passes (10). As such, Kim will continue to lead Suwon’s offense with her strengths in both delivery and feet.
Suwon’s opponent in this round is 10th-ranked Bucheon (13 points). Bucheon are also in desperate need of a win after going winless in their last two matches. The first match of the season between the two teams will take place on Saturday, June 18 at 7 p.m. at Suwon World Cup Stadium.
